Have you been to Chick-Fil-A lately? Those long lines! Or see what happens at the general admission doors at a concert for your favorite artists! What you might not see is that the guests of that artists don't have to deal with that! Have you attended a sports event recently? The closer you get to the players, the higher the cost of the seats. We don't even hide it anymore! We've commercialized it. This is exactly what Jesus is addressing in Luke 14:7-14.
And maybe it's just me but is it really worth it? A Super Bowl ticket is $5,000! I spent $700 today for two tickets to a Bengals game. My uncle was visiting and wanted him to have a great time. Well we had 3rd row seats at the 25 yard line... great seats! Except the two people in front of us stood up during the entire game, blocking our view and we were watching those big screen monitors most of the game. Seriously! Not to mention the parking, the traffic, the bad food and the indigestion from the cheeseburger that I don't think was real meat! I can't wait to see what he posts on his Facebook page. It will be all about the good time but what is it really? I think it's nothing but bragging rights. Because if it was about the game, I had better seats in my living room. Again... maybe just me - but what is our priority really? There are so many examples of this. Restaurants! Concerts! Standing in line for hours to get the latest pair of Nike's before everyone else! 

Stop! This is one parable I'm fully on board with even before becoming a disciple. I know the world won't stop but I'm happy to jump off that ride.
