Chapter 2 Summary:Dr. Samir Patel, a brilliant mathematician and first-generation American, is introduced as a reserved genius whose groundbreaking work has contributed significantly to cryptology and cybersecurity for U.S. government agencies. Currently, he’s working with NASA on developing an ultra-secure communication system to defend against missile and satellite hijacking threats. Despite his introverted nature, Samir’s intellectual contributions are widely respected.While deeply focused on his latest complex mathematical formula, Samir is interrupted by Terry Carver, his project supervisor. In a secure, soundproof room, Terry informs Samir that he has been reassigned by direct order of the President to an undisclosed project and must report to the White House within 48 hours. Terry cannot provide details about the assignment other than that it is classified and that Samir is expected to comply.Samir is stunned by the abruptness of the change—especially since he is not allowed to finish his current work or even say goodbye to his team.
