Dr. Benjamin Neimark from Lancaster University talks about bioprospecting in Madagascar - the practice of discovering new plants and natural compounds to commercialize and use for medicinal purposes. Dr. Neimark will also explain how in Madagascar, bioprospecting opened the door to biodiversity offsetting - the idea that environmental damage from mining, building roads, or constructing new residential areas can be compensated or "off-set" in a different location through increased preservation or restoration.
