Chess in the Schools serves over 12,000 low-income students in Title 1 New York City public schools through structured classroom chess instruction, after school clubs, chess tournaments, summer programs, and a College Bound program for over 100 high school students. We use chess as an educational tool to promote learning and to help young people develop skills in critical thinking and problem solving.We talk about my experience working at CIS, the organizations' mission, the benefits of chess, an overview of CIS' programming, corporate sponsorships, fundraising, COVID-19 transition, remote instruction and more.
