Bio:
Melissa Yamashita, wife, and mother of two boys with two canine companions, dedicates herself to her role as a full-time High School Spanish teacher. Embarking on a consistent exercise journey 15 years ago when her older son was a toddler, she embraced a mindset that underscored personal responsibility for her health, maintaining a level of consistency ever since. For Melissa, exercising transcended beyond a mere physical activity, transforming into both a social event and a means of escape.
Armed with a Bachelor of Science degree in Nutritional Science from Cal Poly SLO, Melissa initially hesitated to pursue a career as a registered dietitian due to the hospital-centric nature of the profession. However, her profound love for food and its profound impact on her overall well-being—emotionally, physically, and mentally—remained a constant interest, even if left unexplored at that time.
Melissa's journey includes a connection with her husband, forged through their meeting at Bread of Life, now present-day Whole Foods. Extensive travels broadened her perspectives on diverse cultures and languages, ultimately guiding her into the realm of education as a Spanish teacher over the course of 25 years.
Melissa seamlessly integrated various forms of exercise into her lifestyle and experimented with different dietary approaches, including phases of vegetarianism and veganism. Having identified a personalized approach that suits her, she recently attained certification as a nutrition coach. With an eye toward the future, Melissa aspires to specialize in catering to menopausal women and athletes, reflecting her current life stage. Navigating the challenges of adapting training and nutrition to the nuances of menopause, she expresses confidence in being on the right path, acknowledging the ongoing journey toward improvement.
