Listen "Visiting George Floyd Square"
Episode Synopsis
Originally recorded May 5, 2021, a chat with family friend & business owner, Ivy, who’s restaurant is located in George Floyd Square. Ivy, and her husband Dwight, retired from the restaurant business this past year, but Smoke In The Pit is still operating, now run by their children! The following conversation is one story, of many I’m sure, about a hard subject matter, a wonderful neighborhood, ongoing problems in our country, a search for answers…and really good food. I am getting around to publishing it a year late, compelled to do so by the anniversary of Mr. Floyd’s death and the tragedy in Uvalde. Also by the fact that it is Asian Pacific American Heritage Month, and our family celebrates those cultures as our son has both Asian and Pacific Islander lineages. I wanted to be sure to put this conversation out into the world, with a hope of cultivating empathy. kindness and understanding.
