Listen "Abstinence Education - Should parents abstain? "
Episode Synopsis
About Abstinence Education: Many times, well-meaning people bring testimonies and stories that may involve issues that you are not ready for your student to hear in the name of sex education. The solutions that are promoted by the teacher or person with a testimony may not meet your expectations or desires for your child, even under the abstinence banner. As a certified abstinence director through crisis pregnancy centers, I taught students in the public school system, mainly in Pennsylvania. This may be what many parents would desire for their kids, however, parents still need to make certain that the teacher delivering the message is qualified and not just zealous or passionate. Parents on the Level recommends that if a parent does not feel adequate to teach their kids about sex, their instructor should have an SRAS (Sexual Risk Avoidance Specialist) certification that brings the information to them with factual evidence and proper caution.
