Christmas: the most wonderful time of the year! We all enjoy the “spirit of Christmas,” not because of traditions and nostalgia, but because of the truth and power of the original Christmas story. In the gospels, we see that the events surrounding the birth of Christ is filled with God’s presence and power. It’s full of the miraculous: a virgin birth, angelic visitations, and open heavens. Immanuel is the pronouncement that God is with us through Christ and the abiding Holy Spirit that is present in believers today. God was with believers when Jesus arrived, and he is still here through the Holy Spirit’s indwelling. He is still here, and he is still moving.
