Episode Synopsis
We have come to believe that we are supposed to be happy almost all of the time with just a sprinkling of unhappiness, and that pressure has led to a lot of unnecessary emotional suffering. Sadness is what makes happiness so wonderful. Think of the sun and rain. Many of us love the sun and hate the rain, but the rain is so important. It irrigates crops and is a lifeline for us. Emotions are not caused by our good and bad circumstances. Emotions are caused by our thoughts, and I encourage you to stop thinking of emotions as positive or negative but rather as comfortable or uncomfortable. When you drop your fear of experiencing uncomfortable emotions, unnecessary suffering decreases.
