Listen "Are We Still Worshiping Idols Today? - Dallas Messianic Congregation"
Episode Synopsis
When we think of idolatry, we picture ancient statues and pagan rituals. But what if idolatry never really went away? This week’s drash on Parshat Yitro explores the foundation of our covenant with Hashem—and the moment when we asked for a mediator instead of hearing directly from Him. Was that the beginning of our downfall? Did that fear set us on the path to losing both Temples?More importantly, what idols do we worship today? They may not be statues, but anything that steals our attention, our devotion, and our time away from Hashem—social media, entertainment, even the excessive reverence of human figures—can become our modern-day idols. The shift is subtle, but before we know it, hours disappear into distractions, and our connection with Hashem weakens. This drash challenges us to reflect: Are we truly keeping our covenant with Hashem? Or have we created idols of our own?
