As the year draws to a close and winter settles in for good, Beneath the Surface returns with a special December edition—marking not only our final show of 2025, but also our 50th episode on OpenLab.
To celebrate, Mick Wilson and August Artier deliver a set that looks both ways—casting an eye back to the rave-inspired sounds of yesteryear, while staying locked into the forward momentum of the underground. There’s a more immediate feel to this month’s show—banging in places but still measured—blending rough-edged club cuts with deeper textures and off-centre rhythms.
The festive atmosphere is there, just under the surface, wrapped in low-slung breaks, percussive house, atmospheric electronica and flickers of rave energy. It’s music made for winter nights, but with a pulse that nods to the dancefloor.
