Effie Kapsalis is Senior Digital Program Officer at The Smithsonian, where she leads the digital strategy for the Smithsonian's American Women's History Initiative. She also developed and implemented a project called Smithsonian Open Access, which removed copyright restrictions from millions of images and data and made them freely available to the public. This week marks the one year anniversary of the launch of Smithsonian Open Access.
