Listen "Question V/S Doubt"
Episode Synopsis
BESHALACH
Question V/S Doubt
How is it possible that we are commanded to forget what Egypt did to us, but not to forget what Amalek did? How is it that in the face of the Egyptians who enslaved us for nearly a hundred years and committed gradual murder through the drowning of infants in the Nile, and the Torah commands us to forget and leave behind what happened.
While in the case of the Amalekites, who encountered us with relatively short-lived hostilities that ended at a relatively low cost – we harbor anger and hatred and are not willing to let them exist?
Here, the Torah teaches the difference between conflict and enmity: Amalek, was not bothered by something we did but by who we are, our very existence. They felt that we were overshadowing them. Such hatred cannot be solved, only cast away forever.
Questions are rational events that require a response, while doubts are irrational events that arise from the audacity and coarseness, the only way is to divert attention and move forward.
