Listen "#17 | The Beginning of the End Part 2"

Episode Synopsis

In this episode we continue to look at the original scene in the garden, but we focus on the two trees located at the center of the garden - the tree of life, and the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. We talk about how the tree of life shows up at the end of the story in the book of Revelation.
We also discuss the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, and how evil existed before Adam and Eve sinned, and how that should shape the way we see God and his motives for putting the tree of knowledge of good and evil in the garden.

Genesis 2:9
Tree of life at the end of the story: Revelation 22:1-5
The Hebrew word for “evil” used for damage or harm: Genesis 26:29; 31:29
The Hebrew word for “evil” used to describe the famished cows, implying a deficit: Genesis 41:3,4,19, 20, 21, 27
The Hebrew word for “evil” is juxtaposed with the Hebrew word for peace/shalom, implying dysfunctional, or disordered: Isaiah 45:7. Also used to describe the breaking of something, or brokenness: Jeremiah 11:16, Job 34:24
One of the Greek words often translated as “evil” - poneros - means pain, or useless trouble, but can also mean poverty, or deficit.
