Listen "#102 | Faith to Keep Moving Towards the Promise Land - Part 2"
Episode Synopsis
In this eposode we keep exploring the story of the Israelites' struggle to believe the word of God's promise. Part of our struggle to believe is connected with who we choose to listen to. The writer of Hebrews quotes the Psalmist who encourages us to listen and be responsive to God's voice. That means all of the other voices have to be sorted and silenced in light of God's voice. God really does want us to make progress and move beyond our current stage of growth and development, but that can only happen if we allow ourselves to be persuaded by the words God speaks to us. Faith, in essence, is what comes to the surface when we are persuaded by the truth of God's promise.
However, we have to say that God does not just want us to be persuaded for his sake. In other words, God is not just arbitrarily testing us. As it turns out, faith is not only necessary for us to move forward and enter into the promise God gives us, it is also necessary for us to function in that new stage. In other words, faith is not only a gateway that we walk through to enter the promise, but also the ground that we stand on as we experience the promise. God will never take us into a new stage of growth unless we have first developed the kind of faith that will sustain us in that new stage of growth. God is not going to set us up for failure. He will only lead us where our faith can sustain us. That's why the first generation had to die in the wilderness.
