Listen "S3E6: The Social Contract"
Episode Synopsis
Despite a terrible internet connection, I managed to interview Houston Big Brain Chase Sloan for this episode with only one weird recording glitch about 20 minutes in (be prepared). We cover a lot of ground on this topic of community, from the powerhouse historic Third Ward in Houston to finding community as an adult to the importance of looking, seeing, being real, and engaging authentically with an IRL community or two.Let’s make purposeful moves to connect with people around us, in real life. ACTION1. Find the spaces that can nurture you where you are, and get in community with others with common values, goals, and interests – not just common identities.2. One thing you have in common with your neighbors is where you live! If you don’t have an online neighborhood group, start one as a means for mutual aid during disasters and extreme weather events. But let this only be a start to community building!3. Remember to develop communities offline, too. You don’t have enough IRL community support if you turn off the screen and you feel loneliness set in. Dig in. And let's pick up some threads and strengthen all the areas where this fabric has frayed. We will need each other in the coming months and years, more than ever.
