Episode Synopsis

Thank you for joining us for episode 35 of OccPod, the official podcast of the American College of Occupational and Environmental Medicine. This episode continues the COVID Conversations series, which is dedicated to sharing the latest COVID-19 news, and frame conversations through the lens of science with a focus on OEM, or occupational and environmental medicine. As conversations surrounding serious illness and the pandemic dissipate, OccPod will begin to shift to other topics and series, such as OccPod: Climate Conversations. Be sure to listen to the first episode of a new series addressing vaccines, a series made possible (in part) by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention!
In this episode, Erin and Dr. Nabeel discuss the BA.5 subvariant of COVID-19, which has quickly become the most prevalent variant of the virus. As of July 2, the subvariant BA.5 was responsible for nearly 54% of COVID cases in the U.S. BA.4, a similar subvariant, accounted for nearly 17% more, according to the latest data from the CDC. According to the University of California Davis Health, the reported symptoms of BA.5 are similar to previous COVID variants: fever, runny nose, coughing, sore throat, headaches, and fatigue. As always, thank you for joining us for another episode of COVID Conversations!
