Listen "Capturing Conflict: Open-Source Journalism "
Episode Synopsis
For this episode, The Gateway will attempt to understand the impact technology is having on civil conflict around the world. News broadcasts are inundated with images of citizens clashing with police, governments authorities, or invading occupants. How are we understanding these tumultuous events? What is the truth? Is there a way to decipher fact from fiction? In a time when unrest is pervasive, under-standing the way we receive these stories is at the forefront of humanity. To help examine the rapidly evolving, yet essential pursuit of modern journalism, The Gateway is proud to welcome Giancarlo Fiorella. Giancarlo is an investigator and trainer for Latin America at Bellingcat (www.bellingcat.com). He is also a PhD candidate at the Centre for Criminology & Sociolegal Studies at the University of Toronto, where his research focuses on protest policing and civil conflict.
