Episode Synopsis

Celebrations

In Maracaibo, Venezuela, the Rosary Virgin of Chiquinquira (not to be confused with the Colombian devotion of the same name, but referring to a different apparition and celebrated on July 9th): in the morning of November 18th, 1709, a group of women were beginning their daily work of washing clothes in the lake of Maracaibo. One of the women saw through the waves a small piece of wood which she took in order to serve as the lid for a jar of water. When she brought it home, she noticed it started changing colors, and, as she cleaned it, religious images began to appear. She then put it in a special place, and shortly thereafter sounds and light came from the stone. A complete image emerged with our Lady as a mestiza and native face.[1]
Near Bourges, France, Our Lady of Bourdieux: an abbey built in 928 for the Benedictines.[2]
