Jesus never had a question about His own authority. It was never in doubt in His mind. He was sent by the Father with full authority. Of course, the religious leaders of the day were constantly questioning His authority to teach, to heal, to forgive sin, etc. Oftentimes, they would question Him about these things in an effort to trap Him in His own words. They often came away frustrated.----------Such is the case with this week's passage as they once again probe Him, searching for any means possible to entrap Him. However, it is clear that with His time becoming short, He doesn't have the time to deal with such things. Thus, He dismisses their queries, primarily because He truly did have the authority to do so.
