Listen "Trust Issues – Do They Have What It Takes"
Episode Synopsis
Do They Have What It Takes
In week three of Trust Issues, we explored the foundational role of integrity in rebuilding trust. Through the story of Saul, Jonathan, and David in 1 Samuel, we contrasted Saul’s fractured, emotionally unstable leadership with Jonathan’s consistent and undivided loyalty to both David and God. Integrity isn’t perfection—it’s wholeness. The word itself comes from the Latin integer, meaning complete or undivided. While Saul was reactive and compartmentalized, Jonathan embodied the kind of integrated life God desires—where beliefs and behaviors align. Proverbs 10:9 reminds us, “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely.” We also examined the difference between reputation (who others think you are) and integrity (who you really are). Jesus rebuked hypocrisy because it masks the truth, urging us to clean the inside, not just the outside. This week’s message challenged us to evaluate where we’re most defensive, what we’re hiding, and where we’re most critical of others. Because when it comes to trust, integrity is easier to keep than it is to recover.
1 Samuel 20
Discussion topics
Icebreaker - Read Psalm 15:1–5 out loud together. What stands out to you most about David’s description of the kind of person (a person of integrity) who can dwell in God’s presence?
Integrity meaning - What does integrity mean to you personally? How is it different from perfection? Why is that distinction important?
Proverbs 10:9 - “Whoever walks in integrity walks securely, but whoever takes crooked paths will be found out.” How have you seen this verse play out in your life or someone else’s?
Personal Reflection: In the message, we heard: “Integrity is when your behavior matches your beliefs.” Where in your life do you feel aligned right now? Where might your public and private lives not match up?
Deeper Dive: The message also warned that “integrity is easier to keep than to recover.” What are some practices that help you maintain your integrity day-to-day? Where have you had to rebuild trust—and what did that process look like?
