El FC Barcelona comenzó su participación en la nueva temporada de la UEFA Champions League casi como terminó la anterior, me refiero a caer derrotado contra un club francés y de tener que disputar casi todo un encuentro con un jugador menos; el equipo ahora dirigido por Hansi Flick, sufrió un duro revés al caer derrotados en su visita a Mónaco a causa de una serie de errores cometidos por varios de sus jugadores, en especial el de su capitán y lo que lo les obliga a ser muy precavidos en los subsiguientes encuentros en donde deberán enfrentar en los siete juegos restantes a Bayern Múnich, BVB, Atalanta y Benfica.
