Episode Synopsis

The national science day is observed every year to spread the message of science and its application among the people. The national science day in India is celebrated to mark the discovery of the “Raman effect” by sir C.V.Raman – Sir Chandrashekhara Venkata Raman. He first published his observations of the Raman effect in 1928 on February 28. Later in 1930, Sir C.V.Raman was awarded the Nobel prize for the discovery of the Raman effect.

In 1986, at the request of the National Council for Science and Technology Communication, the government of India declared February 28 as National Science day to honor the discovery of the Raman effect. This February 28 is the same day when sir C.V.Raman published his remarkable discovery of the Raman effect. As this decision about national science day was made in the year 1986, the first national science day was celebrated in the year 1987 on February 28.

The purpose of national science day is to give an opportunity to the scientific-minded citizens in our country and to encourage people as well as popularize science and technology. Watch the video in https://youtu.be/ouYODUV2Ryo
