Most people think writing works like this: you have a thought, then you write it down.
But actually, writing is a process of discovery.  When we start writing, we start thinking, and when we start thinking, we start asking better questions.  The more we do this, the more we learn, and the more effectively we begin to act in the world.  This all comes from writing.
Scientific journalling isn't a well-established discipline.  I think it should be.  I'm hoping my students will agree with me, too.
