Send us a textWe celebrate this great holiday believing God sent Jesus to earth to give us the “good news,” which we call the Gospel. Some might say, “Isn’t that more of an Easter thing, the cross, the resurrection… John 3:16? You know, the Gospel!”But what if Jesus is the Good News? What if the whole idea is that He is the main thing, the perfect gift, the fulfillment of the story? What if the good news is not just about Jesus but literally is Jesus?This Advent season, we are going to reconsider the nature of the Gospel as He is described in the days leading up to His Incarnation: His birth as the baby Jesus. We will remember the angel’s words to Mary: “You will conceive and give birth to a son, and you are to call him Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High.” (Luke 1:31 32)The good news is that this little baby would be the Son of the Most High!We’ll imagine Joseph’s relief when an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph, son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.” (Matthew 1:20)That wasn’t just good news. It was life changing, maybe even life saving news.And we’ll consider the nervous shepherds hearing, “Do not be afraid. I bring you good news that will cause great joy for all the people.” (Luke 2:10)The Magi didn’t just hear the good news. They spread it, even to King Herod, when they asked, “Where is the one who has been born King of the Jews? We saw His star when it rose and have come to worship Him.” (Matthew 2:2)Jesus always announced, “Good news! The Kingdom of Heaven is in your midst right here among you!” I wonder if people knew even then that He was talking about Himself.Merry CHRISTmas!-Pastor Gregg Borror
