Week 1 -- Why Study Church History and the Issues
Why study Church history?

Because our story is historical
We're part of that history, and it is both an encouragement and education.
We were given examples in the Old Testament
Church history is a lens to view our beliefs.
Often, Church history is a magnifying lens if we look.
Sometimes, we need another example.

What is your definition of "Church"?

In Matthew
In Acts (1:8; 2; 8:12; 10-11; 28:16)

Does the "Church" include the Old Testament nation of Israel?

Frequently, that depends on whom you ask.

Some of the heresies we have revisited:

God created Jesus
Two Gods in the Bible
God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit are three people or three manifestations
The God of the Bible is the same as the God of the Koran
