Episode Synopsis

Job — Episode 4: An Early Priest?

In this episode of the Maple Grove Scripture Reading Podcast, we continue our verse-by-verse study of the Book of Job by finishing our close look at Job 1:1–5.

We focus on Job’s regular practice of offering sacrifices on behalf of his children and explore what this tells us about his character, his understanding of God, and his role within his family. Along the way, we look at ancient feasting practices, the meaning of purification and consecration, and the significance of burnt offerings in the Old Testament.

This episode also raises an important question: in what sense is Job acting like a priest for his household, and what does that reveal about faith, responsibility, and intercession before the time of Israel’s formal priesthood?

We close by reflecting on how these opening verses give us a surprisingly full portrait of Job—and prepare us for the dramatic shift that comes next in the story.

Scripture: Job 1:1–5 (NIV)
