Listen "Teenagers and Young People - Spot the signs of mental health concerns"

Episode Synopsis

As parents, how do we spot the signs of mental health concerns of our teenagers and young people? Or, are they just being teenagers?
Thank you to my guest, Hannah Stainer, a mental wellbeing coach for youth in the UK. Hannah talks about how parents and carers of young people can spot the signs of mental health concerns, as well as techniques of when and how to have conversations.   Hannah reiterated the point Jason Lincoln mentioned last time about the fact that teenagers and youth may feel more comfortable when talking to other people in their ‘village’ other than their parents.
You may be interested in the book by Professor Steve Peters, The Chimp Paradox. He has also written a practical book with activities for children called My Hidden Chimp.  Hannah talks about the charity Mind, which has useful resources for mental health concerns.
