The top officials at the N.I.C.E. meet their end when bedlam ensues at a banquet.  Ironically, after abusing language throughout the story, it turns out that gibberish is the cause of the N.I.C.E.'s destruction. "Qui Verbum Dei contempserunt, eis auferetur etiam verbum hominis,"  Merlin says (They that have despised the word of God, from them shall the word of man also be taken away).
