Listen "Rome: Heroes and Emperors | Stories of the World"

Episode Synopsis

Glad to have you listening with us today! Join Ms.Sarah as she reads about the myths and legends from ancient Greeks from one of her personal books! This reading is from the very back of a Collector's edition copy of "Tales of Heroes, Gods & Monsters. Greek myths &Legends" which is by Dr. Steve Kershaw. We hope you enjoy these classictales!Today we touch on Roman Myths. Roman Myths share a lot of stories with Greek Myths, so here we are only covering the major differences. This section of the book touches on Roman heroes and Emperors. There are a few parts of this interpretation that we disagree on, but we must include since it is a major part of the book. Like describing the romans as worshipping their dead emperors when there is little supporting this idea, and it mostly serves as a reversionistic telling of an ancient culture. Looking into this idea you willfind that it was far more complex and cannot be put into few words very easily. The simplest understanding is that Romans of the time simply believed theiremperor to hold the powers of a god, in the sense that he could kill or savethousands with a wave of his hand. This led them to revere and honor those who did not abuse this power, and to fear those who did abuse it. Some try toretell this as them worshipping the dead emperor, but it would be no differentthan how Americans revere some of our presidents. Sorry for the rant but I hope you still enjoy the reading, and I hope it encourages you to learn more about the world around you! - Check out the Library Systems official website where you can find links to free resources, school and career guides, and news about our upcoming events! https://www.pawls.org/ -Follow us on YouTube and enjoy our backlog of digital story hours and other great content! https://www.youtube.com/@pawls365 Original background track is The Talons Of Adventure, The Antlers Of Romance by Doctor Turtle, music from the freemusicarchive.orghttps://freemusicarchive.org/music/Doctor_Turtle/none_given_1561/Doctor_Turtle_-_You_Um_Ill_Ah1/The Talons Of Adventure, The Antlers Of Romance by Doctor Turtle is licensedunder a Attribution 4.0 International License.Alterations were made by us to make it fit the length of our content.#library #books #pawlskids #kidsstorytime
