Listen "Tracer Rounds Welcomes Retired Navy Commander Henry Rausch"
Episode Synopsis
Join the show as this week's guest is retired Navy Commander Henry Rausch. Henry recently published a memoir about his first tour onboard a submarine in the 1980’s. His book is called, "Submerged: Life on a Fast Attack Submarine in the Last Days of the Cold War." The book has been an Amazon Bestseller in its category for seven consecutive months. It also earned First Place for published nonfiction at this year’s WriterCon. The submarine service is very different from the rest of the US military. The selection process for officers is intense; each one is hand-selected by the Director of Naval Reactors after a personal interview. Submarine operations often last months at a time with no communications with the outside world and demand a different type of leader, one that can make decisions independently, with limited information. The memoir talks about these privations, the nature of the service, and the unique leadership challenges it presents. Tune in to find out more!
