Listen "Daniel Hattaway - National Guard"

Episode Synopsis

Host, Jim Nicklas interviews his long-time friend, Daniel Hadaway, about moving ahead after adversity.Daniel grew up expecting to serve in the military, possibly as a Navy SEAL or an Army Ranger. In college ROTC, hearing about an upcoming deployment to Afghanistan, he dropped out of school to enlist in the National Guard for active duty. At around the same time, a developing, serious health problem made it clear he might be a burden on his team or might not be able to carry his load. After disclosing his condition on base during his medical exam, he was discharged from the National Guard. Daniel found that having his life's plan blocked was a heavy burden for him. Jim and Daniel discuss the significant decision Daniel made between insisting on pursuing what he wanted for himself or putting others first and choosing what would be good for all. Jim affirms that Daniel has moved forward without having everything figured out in advance. Jim notes that continuing to move in the midst of uncertainty is one of the marks of a man, characteristic of Godly masculinity. Daniel witnesses how he learned to trust in God and build habits of daily prayer and scripture reading, partly through finding a great church and community of believers that hold him accountable. Listen in to hear Daniel's advice on working your way forward after facing adversity.See our Website: MenBuildMen.com
