Listen "Sascha Deri & Seth Lockman (aerospace & engineering)"
Episode Synopsis
Sascha Deri is the CEO of bluShift Aerospace, and Seth Lockman is the Communications Director. Founded in 2014, bluShift Aerospace has designed a bio-derived rocket fuel and a modular hybrid rocket engine. Building on these technologies bluShift will create a family of launch systems, the largest of which can lift 30-kilogram payloads to low-Earth orbit. These new suborbital and orbital launch systems will dramatically reduce the environmental impact, cost, and wait times of current cubesat launch services. By launching these rockets in the state, bluShift plans to create over 40 aerospace jobs in Maine in the next 5 years, and to bring revenue from the rapidly growing cubesat launch market into the state. bluShift Aerospace is headquartered at TechPlace, at Brunswick Landing. Seth presented at the MSF Showcase Event 5 Minute Genius in 2019 (stepping in for Sascha). You can see his video at the MSF YouTube channel, and Sascha had been scheduled to presented at the 2020 Maine Science Festival before it was canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. To sign up for the live stream of their launch (now scheduled for October 28, 2020 at 7am, EDT), go to https://www.eventbrite.com/e/120562875807.You can connect with bluShift at [email protected]; and you can find out more about the Maine Space Grant Consortium that Sascha mentioned at https://www.msgc.org/.Cover Image: Sascha Deri holding a model of a cube satellite.~~~~~~~The Maine Science Podcast is a production of the Maine Science Festival.
