This week Mary Jacob and I talk about designing Active Cognitive Tasks (ACTs) to help your students engage in active learning. Mary is a member of the Active Learning Network and has a chapter about ACTs in a forthcoming SEDA book, Active Learning in Higher Education, edited by Wendy Garnham and Isobel Gowers. At the 2022 Global Festival of Active Learning, she led a workshop on designing ACTs. In this podcast, she shares highlights based on that work.
Mary is a lecturer in learning and teaching and part of the Learning and Teaching Enhancement Unit at Aberystwyth University. She coordinates the Postgraduate Certificate in Teaching in Higher Education, designs CPD workshops for university staff, and curates the Weekly Resource Roundup.
