She has also held posts as US Ambassador to Kyrgyzstan and Armenia, and from 2001 to 2004 she was Deputy Chief of Mission of the U.S. Embassy in Kyiv, Ukraine. She is the author of the new book, Lessons from the Edge: A Memoir. They discussed US-Ukraine relations, the role of diplomacy in resolving the conflict between Russia and Ukraine and European security.
