Listen "Living with IBD as a Person of Color"
Episode Synopsis
The experiences of people of color living with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) aren’t always talked about or adequately represented. This episode explores the challenges that can be unique to people in Black and Brown communities when it comes to getting the medical care they need. Two “IBD Warriors,” Keyla and Marilyn, talk about their journey navigating the healthcare space in the context of IBD.
“I didn’t know what was going on. I was frightened. And everyone kept saying that this is not normal for anyone of color.” — Marilyn
“The language barrier and social norm was a big reason why there was a long delay in getting a diagnosis. My mom didn’t understand what the doctor was saying.”— Keyla
