Listen "#92 How to Help Yourself (or Someone You Love) with Covid-19"
Episode Synopsis
I want to share my experience and show you what happens in your brain when you're diagnosed or suspect you are sick. (And this applies to what happened when I was diagnosed with MS too.)
You see, our primitive brains are designed to keep us from danger. So when we are sick, they are on high alert. There is so much fear. (Fears like: Will I die? Will I end up in the hospital? Will this exacerbate my other illnesses? Will I lose my job? Why my kids be okay? Who will take care of my kids? The list goes on.) Our brains also play a Blame-Shame Game. We just want someone or something to blame. It's easier that way. And then comes the guilt. Oh, the guilt.
I also share this so you can help someone you care about if they're going through a tough time. When you know what might be going on in their head, it's easier to be there for them.
And here's what I know for sure, people are kind and good and generous. Ask and accept help.
And remember, you are stronger than you can ever imagine.
