Listen "The Little Boat"
Episode Synopsis
Someone has suggested that God exists in the form of a gift. I like that way of putting it because, being love, means his heart is always flowing out to bless everyone and everything he has created with as much goodness as possible.
In fact, let’s think of God is a mighty river — vast and deep. Suppose you’re standing on the shore and let’s say that you want to give God something precious to you as represented by a little paper boat that you make. You go down to the rivers’ edge and say, “God, I’m giving this to you. From now on, it's yours. Do with it as you please.”
You proceed to set the paper boat in the river and you watch it until it disappears out of sight downstream. God has it. It’s all his now.
But let me tell you what he did with it. Further down stream unbeknownst to you a young boy is playing next to the river. He’s digging out a hole in the sand and stones at the rivers’ edge and making his own lake. He’s so focused on digging and watching the water swirl into his lake that he doesn’t notice what’s coming until the little paper boat suddenly comes sailing into his lake.
He looks at it in stunned amazement then looks up stream, where did that come from? Then in sheer delight is snatches it up and runs yelling about it to where his parents are.
They can hardly believe what he’s telling them. Where did that come from?
You see, God gave it to him. But at one time it was yours. It was something precious to you. Then you decided to give it to God and look what he did with it.
Ya, you can hang onto your life and by that I mean, do what you will, say whatever you want, work to just make things better for yourself. Or you can give your thoughts away to God in prayer, you can give your tongue to him in words that constantly bless and encourage others. You can give him your time in simple helpfulness everywhere you go. Give God what’s precious to you — your very own self — and He will empower you to live like him in gift form too.
And then one day you’ll see what God did with you as the river takes your gifts down stream into other peoples worlds to their stunned amazement and joy.
