Listen "The Big One"
Episode Synopsis
Perhaps the biggest question any one of us ever asks is, Why am I here? Thankfully, the Bible is far from silent in answering that. And one of the most significant replies appears in Colossians 1:16 where with reference to Jesus we read, “For in him all things were created: things in heaven and on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or powers or rulers or authorities; all things have been created through him and for him.”
Especially take note of those last two words: “for him” that is, for Jesus. So, you and I and all creation come to be what we were created to be when we are properly relating to Jesus Christ. And the concept that makes the most sense to me in defining that relationship is friendship. Jesus created us to be his friends. And since we are each unique, that means our friendship with Jesus will be unique. He looks to have the joyful satisfaction of an ongoing walk with you that he can have with no other being in all his creation. And it is a great discovery to realize that Jesus also intends for us to work with him in passing on the blessings we experience in walking with him.
In Psalm 16:11 we read, “You make known to me the path of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence, with eternal pleasures at your right hand.”
Unfortunately, this verse seems to be reserved as a promise pertaining to the afterlife. I prefer to see it as speaking to the here and now so that when we read, “You make known to me the path of life” that’s Jesus calling us to friendship with himself. He is the way. He reveals himself to interested hearts as the path of life.
Then, “you will fill me with joy in your presence.” That’s what happens to us the more aware we become of who he is and his constant companionship.
Then, you will fill me “with eternal pleasures at your right hand.” I suggest to you that those pleasures are the thrills associated with what happens to us day by day as we work with him in blessing others. Since he said so himself that “it is more blessed to give than to receive” then there is no pleasure that gets any better than sharing the blessing of his love with others.
