Jesus, in referring to himself as the good shepherd, said, “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I have come so that they may have life, and may have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)
It may very well be that the biggest mistake we make in our day to day living — the taproot of all our frustrations — is believing that what we have in mind for ourselves will bring us a more abundant, satisfying life than what Jesus has in mind for us.
The sooner we wake up from such delusional thinking, the better. And then from cover to cover in the Bible a call comes to us something like this:
6 “Seek the LORD while he may be found; call on him while he is near. 7 Let the wicked forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to the LORD, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely pardon. 8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the LORD. 9 “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:6-9 (NIV))
