Listen "Guard Your Heart"

Episode Synopsis

Jesus said, “Where your treasure is there your heart is also.” Matthew 6:21
Let’s have a close look at that statement. To know what our hearts are attached to, we need to know what it is we treasure. And if you want to know what it is you most treasure, then the best way I’ve found to do that is to take a close look at what you think about when you are free to think of whatever you’d like, that is, when nothing requires your focused attention?
For example, when you are driving down the highway, you have a lot of freedom to think of whatever you will. What do you think about right then? Washing dishes or doing some habitual routine usually doesn’t require your full attention. What is then on your mind?
Whatever that is, that is your treasure, it is where your heart is — your inner life is being ordered around it.
I would do well to ask myself, is that where I want my heart?
In Proverbs we read, “Above all else, guard your heart, for everything you do flows from it.”  Proverbs 4:23
Hence the critical importance of paying careful attention to what we think about when we are free to think of whatever we’d like.
