Listen "Live at the Bop Stop - Marc Ribot Presents: Jazz Bins"
Episode Synopsis
Performance used with permission from Marc Ribot. The Hammond B3 sound sits, at least to me, at the core of Soul Jazz. The Hammond in the right hands expresses a depth and authenticity to music that other instruments struggle to match. Guitarist Marc Ribot would take this thought one step further and assert that the depth and authenticity of the Soul Jazz movement of the late 1970s and the New York punk movement going on at the same time had similar expressiveness, even if the two scenes had different circles and different core motivations. Expressing these commonalities are something he's been chasing ever since, and we're fortunate enough to hear the fruits of that effort on this program. It's doubly special because the Jazz Bins feature Greg Lewis on the Hammond B3 and New Orleans native Joe Dyson on drums. From two sold out performances on April 13th, 2024, it's time to find out what sits at the intersection of Soul Jazz and Punk with Marc Ribot's Jazz Bins…Live at the Bop Stop.
