Episode Synopsis

Sermon Transcript:Good morning, church. Good to be with you. Thank you Pastor more for having me here. You know, I was looking at this setup here and I noticed your electrical cords and water all over them and a metal stand and and I thought man, you know the Holy Spirit's here protecting us, right? I was like, What's going on here, the first guy comes up to you, and I'm looking, there is nine more people to go. And then the people got smaller and there was less splash, you know? Good to have everybody here.My name is Larry Floyd, I'm the executive director for the El Paso Baptist Association. And many of you may not know, but we actually affiliate with non denominational churches like Life Church as well. And so you guys are part of that group of about 85 churches, and we're glad to partner with you. So thank you so much for doing that. So today's Mother's Day.We're forever grateful for the roles that our moms play in our lives. I'm gonna tell you right now, if your mom is alive, and well, you better hug her neck and tell her how much you love her today. Because some of us don't have our mamas with us no more, I buried my mama, April 29, just a few weeks ago. And so this is a first for me.And it's really weird not being able to spend the day with her because we always do every year. So if your mom is alive, and maybe you're separated and you're not reconciled to her, today is the day to do that. Don't let another day go by without going to mom and saying whatever the your differences are. Make make it right. Love her.So, you know, men have often said this. And men you can agree with me. If you think women we cannot live with themor without them. Right. So one day, there was a guy, three guys walking along. And they came to this raging river. First guy comes along and says I want to get to the other side. But I don't know how. So he bends down and he kneels down and he prays and he prays this prayer, please God give me the strength to cross this river. Poof. God made him have big arms and strong legs and he was able to swim across that river in about two hours. Second guy saw and said, Hey, I'm gonna try something else. He said, I'm gonna pray to God. And I'm gonna ask him, not only to give me the strength to do it, but also the ability to cross the river. And poof, God gave him a boat, a rowboat. So he was able to roll across that river and about an hour. Third guy says, I'm going to add a little something to it. And he prays God gave me the strength give me the ability and give me the intelligence to cross the river. Poof, God turned him into a woman. She looked at the map, and she found that where the bridge was, and she crossed across the bridge.Today we honor our moms and women in our lives as God would have us to do Amen. I'm going to read a text from First Samuel chapter two verses one through 10.Preachers all across the nation are preaching on Mother's Day and they're gonna probably be using this text a lot because it's hard to find a lot of Mother's Day passages. In the Bible. There's there's a few and but this is one of the most popular ones is called Hannah's prayer. She's praying to God about this thing that was going on in her life of not being able to have kids. So see she has a kid and she prays this prayer.Second set First Samuel chapter two verses one through 10 says that Hannah prayed and said, My heart rejoices in the Lord. And in the Lord my horn is lifted Hi, my mouth boasts over my enemies For I delight in your deliverance. There is no one holy like the Lord. There is no one beside you. There is no rock like our God didn't do not keep talking so proudly, or let your mouth speak such arrogance for the Lord is a God who knows and by his by him deeds are weighed. the bowels of the warriors are broken. But those who stumble are armed with strength for those who were full hire themselves out for food, but those who are hungry or not hungry, no more. Those who were barren, has born seven children. Excuse me, she who was barren has more than seven children, but she who has many sons pines away. The Lord brings death and makes alive he brings down the grave and raises up the Lord sends poverty and well he humbles and extol exalts, he raises the poor from the dust and lifts the needy from the ashes of actually, he seats them with princes and he has them inherit a throne of honor for the foundations of the earth. Are the Lord's on them he has set the world he will guard the feet of the faithful servant, but the wicked will be silenced in the plate place of darkness. It is not my strength that one prevails. Those who oppose the Lord will be broken. The Most High will thunder from heaven. The Lord will judge the ends of the earth he will give them strength to he will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed. Father God, we thank You for Your Word. And this morning, we asked Holy Spirit to speak to us. Thank you for being here this morning. Thank you for those that have given their life to Christ and have honored view by obedience and believers baptism. Lord, what an awesome sight to see, Lord, would you give them a great day today? They'll always remember when they were baptized on Mother's Day 2024. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.So number one, a faithful woman always praise a faithful woman always praise and you can put in there a faithful person, always praise but we're honoring moms today. So we're gonna say faithful woman. If you want to be a person of faith, you have to pray. Amen. You have to pray. Nothing happens without prayer. If you think that you can make God move without praying to Him. You got another thing coming. He can do what he wants. We must pray if we're going to be faithful. Praying elevates our relationship with the Father. Praying elevates our relationship with the Father. As Hannah prays, we see here that her heart is joyful, and her heart rejoices. And Hannah is enjoying her time with God. Can you hear it in that prayer? She's just enjoying telling God how awesome he is. She says you're the rock, your everything you're in. She's just having a great time praying. It's an exciting time to spend with God when you're praying and honoring and exalting his name. What a beautiful picture of prayer. It's not a burden to pray.Amen. It's not a burden to pray.It is not a time when she decides all I can do is pray. You know, sometimes we hear that, well, we've tried everything else now. Well, we're going to pray.As if that's the last stream of thing that we do, and should be the first thing that we do. We get to pray. It's not a burden. It's an honor to pray. The vision we see is privilege and excitement and confidence that Hannah's doing here, and then his prayer, Hannah prays that her horn is filled, which means that her strength comes from the Lord. It's this strengthening that that she gives us. And she even says this my strength. Basically, when she's saying my horn is filled, it's actually supernatural. She's like, I'm not getting my strength from my husband, from my children from my church, I'm getting my strength from him. He's the one that's filling my horn. It's a strengthening thing that comes from God. I want you to know that my God and I hope your God supplies all of our needs, amen.10 new people into the kingdom of God today. I know they came to Christ earlier, and today was just an expression of who they were. But the kingdom of God is growing. People are coming to faith. It was such a beautiful thing to see young people saying yes to Jesus, amen.He supplies all of our needs. How does the HANA know that? If you go back to chapter one in First Samuel, she's reading she's praying this other prayer about how barren she is that she can't have children, just in chapter one.And people are mocking her. And they're saying things and she says, and this is what they think. And back in those days, if you couldn't have kids, you were actually shunned by the community. They thought God must not love this person. They're unable to be fruitful and multiply, as it says in Genesis, and that's not the case. After much prayer, she continues with the relationship with the Father and she gives birth to Samuel, we have First and Second Samuel because of this, which means name of God. That's what Samuel means. So this prayer in First Samuel two is a result of God's faithfulness in her life. And Psalm 37 Four says, this, take delight in the Lord. And He will give you the desires of your heart.take delight in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart. Now I know a lot of times we hear that verse and we read that verse, we study that verse, And we hear he will give us right, we that will kind of just jumps out at me, he will give us and I'm going, Oh, wow, what should I ask God for?He says, take delight in the Lord. First is what the psalmist says, Therefore, when our prayers come, they're going to be in the Lord. They're going to be delighted because of the Lord. And we're going to ask something that's of the Lord. That's when he says, He'll give you the desires of your heart. So the first point we have to make is we have to give God everything. And we delight in being with him. And then he will give us that thing that we ask for. Because we know what we ask. It's going to be what it is what God is doing in our life. So Hannah has this real prayer life with God. I hope that you really sense thisIf you've never read the book of First Samuel, and Second Samuel, it's amazing things that she just talks to God as if he's right there. Because he is a man. He's right there with us. He, we have him with us, we take him with us everywhere we go. And he's guiding us internally. And we talked to him, just like another person. There's no such thing as a certain prayer language that we have. When we pray to God, we just speak to him as if we know him, because we do know him. So from now on, and if you think about your prayer life, it's not if it's not going the way it should be. Just start talking to God. Start, you know, it sounds crazy. Sometimes when I'm in the car driving us go, man, thank God for you know, and I'm just thanking him for different things that I see. Especially if you see a sunrise or a sunset or something in nature. And we know that there's a creator, because He created all things. And so when we're praying and having that desire of the Lord taking delight, we can pray something like my heart's desire God is, you fill in the blank, my heart's desire is this. And name it. Don't be afraid to name it. I think sometimes we fall short of asking God for things because we're afraid that if we ask him something that is going to be selfish, not if you're taking delight in the Lord, not if you're asking him for the things of him, you can go ahead and ask it, name it.We have to be carefulwhen we do that, because sometimes we get in the habit of not being in communion with God. And then something happens in our life. And we just asked him we don't we're not really delighting. We're just getting that one season of life where we're just asking God for whatever we want. But we really haven't taken delight in the Lord. And we have to be careful when we do that. Because I just don't think God answers those prayers. Because they're very selfish. This is what I need at this moment. No, God's going to tell you what you need at that moment in your life. And you'll just need to trust him. Where the breakdown is where with God is this We asked him for something, we emphasize the we. And it almost we expect them to give it to us because we go back and we say his word back to him. I'm taking delight in you, Lord. You said, You're gonna give me the desires of my heart. It's almost like we're demanding God to do what His Word says. That's not a praying God's word back to him means this coming with a humble spirit and a humble heart so that when we ask, we want him to answer, we can never expect God to do the things that we want to do, because he may have something bigger in mind for our lives. So I want to be careful with that you should be careful is that as well? And so use scripture in your time of prayer, acknowledging what God has said in his word. Absolutely. Because that helps us in our prayer life. Amen. It helps us. And Hannah, Hannah says in verse one, she's boasting over her enemies. Since God has redeemed her dilemma. I first read that and I said, I was like, Man, she's kind of boastful in her prayers. And I thank God for smashing down his head, you know, he took care of my enemies. And, you know, you guys have never prayed those prayers.Come on you. We got to let's be honest, we've prayed those prayers. Thank you, God for taking care of that situation, right? We do it. And we're grateful for that because it eliminated something that we didn't need in our life. And she's thanking God for but she's not really boasting. She's talking about the Lord's faithfulness and how he brought her out of this dilemma of being childless. And now she has seven, seven kids. Incredible prayer. She was not criticizing. She was being grateful. She is giving credit to God and verse two, she says, this is the anthem for the for all of us that proclaim God, God, there is no one like you, God, there's no one besides You, God, there's no rock like you. I think there's a couple of songs that we've made out of that one verse there, there's no one like you no one besides You, and there's no rock like you. And that says, that's the anthem of behind Hannah's prayers. Translation. God, you're it. You're everything. No one, no thing. No other thing. Nothing. Suppose that no other God can even come close to who he is. Amen. Nobody can come close to that. Did you see what happened here that today? It was a, an amazing miracle that young people said yes to Jesus, and I want to, I want to be obedient and publicly proclaim Him. When in the public squares today, that's like, we're not doing that anymore. We're almost afraid to say Jesus is our Lord.We like him as a savior, but we don't like Him as our Lord, right? He saves us from an eternity in hell. But when we make them the Lord of our lives, all of these types of prayers come true for us. He becomes everything to us.We don't have to worry. When we pray with God. He's there and he's listening to us. We can count on him. On February 28 1944, a young woman and her family were arrested by the Nazis in effort to stop the smuggling of Jews from the Netherlands. These Jewish people were able to hide in the underground so they don't have to go to concentration camps, where most people would die. TheFamily was separated and transferred to a Nazi concentration camp. It was during that time that the drawing of closeness to God happened. And they took on this whole new meaning of who God was. You see, one family's name that was in there and one of the families was Corrie 10. Boom. Now, Cory refused to be a victim of the circumstance, what was going on, she chose to be a prayer warrior. And she shared Christ with many of the prison guards that were there, she shared the gospel. And after 10 months, she was released, Cory realized that God had spared her life. She went on to be an a ministry of 30 years plus testimony and speaking to crowds all over the world. She once said this,if you look at the world, you will be distressed. If you look within, you'll be dis depressed. But if you look to God, you'll be at rest. So if you look at the world will be distressed. If you look within, you'll be depressed. But if you look to God, you'll be at rest. In that awesome. That was her quote, that's what she had to go on. God is the one who we place our faith in and Cory knew that she went to be the with the Lord and her 91st birthday in 1983. If you haven't read the book, the hiding place, I highly recommend it, read it, and you'll find out more about what happened. And this is one of the things she said, Never be afraid to trust an unknown future, to unknown God. Never be afraid to trust an unknown feature to a known God, because our God is known. We see him all around us. We just witnessed him this morning, and we're still witnessing him. When was the last time you were faithful to pray. For something that was just so big, you knew only God could deliver that. Don't ever be afraid to ask him for something big in your life because we serve a big God. And he wants to do amazing things in your life. Secondly, a faithful woman always gives glory to God. See, God deserves full credit for everything that's going on in her life. He deserves full credit for all of that. You may think the prayer of Hannah is a strange because some of the things she says. And she says things that are right over that always seem she mentioned that there are people who were once full.Once they had a lot, and she says now they're trying to just make ends meet. And then she said others will who wants stumble, who I believe is translated struggled are now making it. She's praying this to God and going, you know, I seen this and now I see this, I watched witness this and now I am seeing this. Others do this. And she says she was once barren. She adds that to it. And now she has seven sons. And she says no, the other people are getting old, the other woman is getting older, should happen boasting about herself. And she said in verse one, she's rejoicing in the Lord and what he's doing all around her Hannah's giving glory to God. So I'm gonna go back and read a couple of verses from First Samuel chapter one so you can kind of understand the context. This is for Samuel 110, through 16says in her deep anguish that Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly. And she made a vow saying, Lord Almighty, if you will only take on your servants misery and remember me, and I forget your servant, but give him give her a son, then I will give you I will give him to the Lord all the days of his life, and no razor will ever be used on his head. And she kept praying the Lord and Eli observed her mouth. Hannah was praying in her heart and her lips were moving. But her voice was not heard.Eat I thought she was drunk. And he said to her, how long are you going to stay drunk?Have you ever prayed so hard to somebody? He thought something was just incredibly wrong with you.He said, Put away your wine. Verse 15. No, my lord Hannah replied, I am a woman who's deeply troubled. I have not been drinking wine or beer. I was pouring out my soul to the Lord. I do not take your servant for a wicked woman. I'm not been praying here out of I've been praying here at a great anguish and great grief. Can you hear her prayer?Somebody thought something was wrong with her. And yet she's saying I'm just pouring out my soul to God.Have you given God your soul? Have you given the glory to him during your prayer time? And lastly, a faithful woman believes God could do all things. Do you believe God can do all things? A faithful person believes God can do all things. And I know that he can and the last few verses of our text for Samuel, chaptertwo and verse nine and 10. A faithful woman, a faithful man, a faithful child, always believe that God can do what he says he will do. We always have to believe that. The verse, the verses that Hannah's prayer says this. She talks about what he will do.He will guard thefeet of His servants, not just any servant, but the faithful ones are definite of servant is actually kind of skewed. Sometimes we think serving God is showing up the church, or praying over a meal. And we say, Man, I, I got a relationship with Christ, right? You're blessed by my presence here, man I showed up, right? I think God for what He's given us what his provision is, for us. A hand isn't talking about that kind of service. She means something, someone who is sold out for the sake of the call, someone that says, I'm going all in, I want to know everything there is about Christ. I mean, matter of fact, Paul said this one time, anddon't get me Don't quote me, I'll tell you the text later. But but he said this, I want to know Christ, in His death, and in his suffering. I remember reading that and I said, why would you ever want to know what it felt like what Jesus was going through on the cross, and he wanted to know Jesus so intimately. He wanted to know about his sufferings, and his death, so that he could have a better relationship with Him. Now that's going all in. And I think that's what Hannah's talking about here. Someone that has decided that Christian service is more meaningful than just meaningless tasks, faithful servants. We serve a God on purpose, amen. We serve them on purpose, because we can not because we have to.In verse nine, Hannah knows the plans God will has for her and she will not place them. And she talks about the plans that people have placed their faith in Jesus. And she says, that did not play through I'm sorry, did that place their faith in Jesus, she says, The wicked will be silenced. You don't ever have to worry what's going to happen to those people that don't know Christ, that hate Christ, that this are disgusted by Christ, that don't believe that he's the savior of this world that don't believe that he believes changes lives. They will be silenced one day, not by us, but by him himself.Amen. He will.Let them talk, let them laugh, let them live their heaven here on this earth. Because that's all they'll know.Because in the end, God will be done, his will will be done. Our prayer should be the same God, I can't change anyone. I can't do anything. But I know that you can. You see so many times even in a marriage, husbands and wives were trying to change each other.Stop trying to change your spouse and let God change the spouse. Could you imagine trying that in your marriage, what it would look like? And say, Well, if that's what he has to does, well, if that's what she has to do, I'm just giving them to God letting God do the work, right? I believe that there will be a whole lot more better marriages today. If we just let God do the work. He's the one that does the work. And like she continues to do, she says the Lord will thunder from heaven. The Lord will judge the earth the Lord will give strength, he will, he will, he will, he will be known. When Jesus returns His coming, will be very thunderous. Matthew 2427 says this, for his lightning that comes from the east is visible for me in the west, so will be the coming of the Son of Man. Everybody's gonna know you don't ever have to worry. When Jesus is coming back the whole world will know. They will all know, Thunder is is the sound that you hear after the lightning. Did you know that lightning happens? You may see it in a distance. And all of a sudden, two or three seconds or however far along it is the thunder comes afterwards. You see, when Hannah prayed to God that the strength would he would give to his king, the first promise of the prophetic implications of that prayer. Saul and David, Solomon, King David were the first kings of Israel. David was the Messianic linnets to Jesus. And Samuel was the one that anointed them as kings.Whatthis is Hannah's prayer, I can't have kids. Now I have seven sons. I have Samuel and he anoints the first kings of Israel. This is what happens when we trust God with for big things. It's an amazing thing. And Hannah, Hannah may not have known what she was praying, but God sure heard the prayers, amen. And sometimes we don't know what to pray. So what does the Bible say about that? In Romans 826, and 27. It says, in the same way, the Spirit helps us in our weakness. Sometimes we don't know what to say. And so we allow the Holy Spirit to speak for us. I don't know what that looks like for you. But sometimes it's just sitting still before God because we have no words, and we let His Spirit speak on our behalf. He says, We do not know what to pray for. but the Spirit Himself intercedes for us with wordless groans. And he searches our hearts and knows the mind of the Spirit because the Spirit intercedes for God's people in accordance to the will of God.And now we can go back to Hannah's prayer and go wow, look at what God was.
