Listen "Would you like gene-edited meat on your dinner plate?"
Episode Synopsis
For decades, genetically modified foods have sparked debate. Praised as a solution to global food security, and criticised as unnatural, unsafe, and poorly understood. Now, the conversation is evolving.... and so are the rules. Genetically edited animals like fish, cows, and pigs, are being developed for the dinner plate. In Australia, GMO foods were traditionally subject to strict regulation under the national food safety watchdog. But that's changing. Food Standards Australia New Zealand has recently revised its rules... meaning certain genetically edited foods will no longer be classified — or regulated — as GMOs. That's one less hurdle for bringing gene-edited animals to Australian tables.
