Listen "The Dementia Roadmap- Think Differently Dementia"
Episode Synopsis
Kim Hegwood is joined today with Lizette Cloete to talk about a different way of approaching dementia care.
Lizette graduated from the University of Pretoria, South Africa in 1992 as an Occupational Therapist. She is the owner of “Think Different” Dementia, a company she established to teach people to think differently about dementia, emphasizing education about dementia, how to care for loved ones with dementia in the home while also understanding common behaviors in dementia. The goal is to promote aging in place and allowing people to “live life to the fullest”, despite dementia. As a diplomat’s daughter, she has lived in 4 different countries and in 11 different States, giving her a unique perspective on life and living (and she has her “own” accent!). She currently calls Greenwood, SC home where she lives with her husband and daughter.
A few of the questions Kim will be asking Ms. Cloete include:
1.Why is staging dementia so important?
2. What can be done to help families get "on the same page" regarding their loved ones' stages of dementia?
3. What is a dementia roadmap?
4. Why is knowing the progression of dementia so important to care for our loved ones with dementia.
5. Can we keep our loved ones at home all the way to the end of life?
6. Can we bring our loved ones home from a facility?
7. Can you help me evaluate whether to bring my loved one home with dementia?
