Hi and welcome to Let’s Word Up! Each day we post a word of the day to help you improve your English language skills.

Today’s word of the day is trapeze.

Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, trapeze is a noun.

Trapeze has two definitions. Firstly it is a horizontal bar hanging by two ropes and free to swing, used by acrobats in a circus. Secondly, in sailing, it is a harness attached by a cable to a dinghy's mast, enabling a sailor to balance the boat by leaning backwards far out over the windward side.

An example of the word trapeze used as an adjective in a sentence would be:

We went to the circus and the best act was the trapeze artists, they were so beautiful and graceful.

Or, She missed the trapeze and almost fell into the lake.

Thank you for listening, we hope that you found it helpful and interesting. Until next time.]
