Today’s word of the day is exonerate.

Exonerate is a doing word therefore it is a verb.

Exonerate has two meanings. Firstly it is to absolve someone from blame for a fault or wrongdoing. Secondly it is to release someone from a duty or obligation.

An example of the word exonerate used in a sentence would be:

They made an official inquiry with the intention to exonerate the accused.

Or, She hopes that they will exonerate her from her cleaning duties if she offers to fix the shed instead

Synonyms: clear, acquit, vindicate, relieve, free.

Antonyms: charge, indite, convict, entrap, stigmatise.
