Today’s word of the day is cinch.
Nouns are words that we use to name things. It can be a person, a place, a thing, an
idea or concept. Therefore, cinch is a noun.
Cinch has two meanings. Firstly it is an easy task. Secondly it is something that is sure or certain.
An example of the word cinch used as a noun in a sentence would be:
They trained harder than anyone else, the competition will be a cinch for them to win.
Or, The outcome is a cinch, the plants will definitely grow.
Cinch can also be used as a verb, with two meanings. Firstly it is to secure a garment with a belt, or to fix a saddle securely using a girth. Secondly it is to make certain of something.
An example of the word cinch used as a verb in a sentence would be:
I'll use a belt to cinch my shorts.
Or, This will cinch her choice to stay at home.
Synonyms: easy, certainty, surety, effortless, simple.
Antonyms: challenge, labour, chore, hassle, trial.
