Listen "#211 What Are The Benefits Of Balance Training For An Aging Population with Dr Elissa Burton"
Episode Synopsis
Having watched my Nan suffer through the debilitating effects that both Dementia and Parkinson's have on the human body and mind, working with an older population and doing what I can to help prevent those issues arising or making those later years easier to navigate have always been a high priority of mine.
As a result of working in the health science field for over 20 years, I'm lucky to have worked with a number of Professors and academics in this area and it was great to be introduced to Dr Elissa Burton through a mutual colleague.
Dr Burton has a list of achievements that would span 10 pages and she is well recognised for the amazing work she has done with an older population and helping them to live long and live well.
Dr Burton is currently a National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) Investigator Grant holder (2020-2024) conducting a project "Balance on the Brain" which is aimed at improving physical health and decreasing falls for people living with mild cognitive impairment.
We talked at length of the benefits to working on your strength and balance in the earlier years of your life and this podcast goes into detail about how you can do just that and and we give both the theory and practical advice on how to stay balanced in ALL sense of the term.
