Jim sits with the Director of Freedom House Ministries: Jennifer Schmohe and Executive Director of House of Hope: Shannon Weinandt to discuss how homelessness affects more than just individuals. It affects families, children, anyone who just cannot make ends meet.
Freedom House takes in families, large ones even with a goal to find a home in green bay and get them connected with stable housing. Housing Vouchers are bridges to housing programs in the community. And they go beyond by creating chore for weekly accountability to help build stability.
House of Hope focuses on homeless between 0-17 years of age. Drop in center open 24hrs a day and 14-21years old can access it with case managers around the clock and a safe place to be until they can find a place to go. Grounded in the understand they are human people working with human people. In an average year they’ve seen 26 unaccompanied minors come through the shelter. It’s very dangerous for them seeing as in as little as 24 hours a youth could be exploited.
